5. Obadiah-5 Dunham (Jabez-4, Nathaniel-3, Thomas-2, John-1), b. in Hebron, Tolland, CT, 31 Mar 1730; d. in Middlefield, Otsego, NY, 17 Feb 1813; m. in Hebron, 22 Nov 1754, Lucy Gillett, dau. of Joel Gillett and Mary Foote. She was b. in Windsor, Hartford, CT, 18 Feb 1740; d. 18 Feb 1830.


buried in Lakewood Cemetery. 


He was a doctor. He had been a garrison soldier at Fort Massachusetts (now in Williamstown, MA) during the French and Indian War. He and several other garrison soldiers from Fort Massachusetts and Fort Hoosac were early proprietors at Pownal, VT, moving there in 1763. He fought in the Revolutionary War; and was one of the heroes of battle of Bennington. On September 24, 1776, he was sent as delegate to Dorset, Vt. to organize Vermont as a state He served as a private from May 19 to June 28, 1779, in Capt. Thomas Sawyer's company of militia raised for the defense of the northern frontiers of the United States, and received £2.19.8. He also served as a private for 67 days from August 16, 1780, in Capt. Eli Noble's company; Major Eben Allen's Detachment, and received £5.3.4 and served as a private for two days in July 1781, under the same command, "as marcher to Saratoga" in the alarm in Pownal. He served as justice of peace at Pownal, Vt. for 20 years. In 1785 he and family (Mehitabel, Abner, Lucy) moved to the hamlet of Bowerstown in Middlefield, NY, just Southeast of Cooperstown. He was overseer of the poor when the town of Middlefield was established in 1797.

ii. Lucy Dunham, b. 02-07-1759 in Hebron, CT, d. 10-09-1823 in Pownal, VT. She

married (1) Benjamin Morgan, 11-16-1775 in Pownal, VT. Benjamin: Military Service 191,424,425,426,427,428, Green Mountain Boy, Herricks Rangers of Vermont, rank of private from Vermont, 1775-1778 - Revolutionary War Was a member of troop from Pownal Vermont under Captain Samuel Wright and Lt. William Wheeler who Ethan Allen took command of at Castleton VT in 1775 to march on Ft Ticonderoga. Benjamin participated in Ethan Allen’s march to Canada under Seth Warner and was a member of the rangers under Col Herrick and took part in the battles of Saratoga, Bemis Heights, & Bennington along with Quebec, Ft Ticonderoga and Crown Point. She married (2) Isaac Duel, 06-22-1806.

married (2) Elisha Fullam, 02-22-1798, d. 05-30-1824.

v. Diadamia Dunham, b. 10-01-1765, d. 12-02-1841 in Albion, PA. She married Lyman

Jackson, 01-03-1782 in Pownal, VT, b. 1-29-1756 in Simsbury, CT (son of Michael Jackson and Susannah Wilcoxson), d. 3-20-1835 in Albion, PA.

vi. Mehitable Dunham, b. 04-05-1771 in Pownal, VT, d. 03-16-1817 in Erie, PA. She

married Cornelius Hendricks, 1790 in prob. Middlefield, NY (son of William Hendricks and Eunice Thorpe), d. 05-22-1816 in Erie County, PA.

vii. Abner Dunham, b. 08-17-1773 in Pownal, VT, d. 02-16-1822 in Cooperstown, NY.

Thought to have had 4 sons and 5 daughters. He married (1) Candace Irons, 1798 in Middlefield, NY, b. 02-07-1779; d. 10-27-1814. He married (2) Gratis Griffen
