Benjamin met Edith while he was working in California and continued a correspondence by Sea Mail. He was in Seoul, Korea and Edith at home in Alameda, CA. They became engaged and she sailed from San Francisco, Ca. to Yokohama, Japan were they were married 4 Aug 1902. They returned to Seoul where Benjamin was employed until about 1907 when they returned to the USA, setting up a home and business.

Charles enlisted in Co. E, 31st Maine, Infantry, 11 Mar 1864 and was mustered in the same day. He was a Corporal when he was Mustered Out, 15 Jul 1865. The Regiment left Maine 18 April 1864 and was attached to the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, IX Corps, Army of the Potomac. The 31st commenced active campaigning on 4 May and took its 1st casualties 2 days later. By 12 June it was engaged in the Siege of Petersburg, VA until the end of the War.

James married Margaret Elizabeth Slonaker and resided in Greenville Twp., Darke Co., OH, where he worked as a carpenter and cooper. They were parents of four children. He enlisted as a Private on 27 January 1864 in Company G of the 44th Ohio Infantry, it quickly became Company M, 8th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. He was then mustered into the Union Army, 44th Ohio Infantry, Company G at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH,. James was injured at Liberty, VA, captured and taken prisoner at Lynchburg, VA and died as P.O.W. at Andersonville Prison, Sumter Co., Georgia from diarrhea & dysentery on 01 October 1864. He is buried at the Andersonville National Historic Site, Macon Co., GA. Find a Grave Memorial #51154136.
