THIRD GENERATION IN AMERICA |
12. DAVID 3 DUNHAM (Jonathan 2 Singletary/alias Dunham, Richard 1 Singletary) b. 10 March 1673/4 in Woodbridge, Middlesex Co., NJ [1]; d. 1750-175 in Woodbridge, NJ [2]; m.2nd 16 or 18 August 1699 in New York City, NY, MARY ILSLEY. [3] She was born 13 April 1680 in Woodbridge, NJ, daughter of John 2 Ilsley (William 1Ilsley) It appears from the record given below that this David Dunham had two illegitimate children born before September of 1697, and before his marriage to Mary Ilsley in 1699. The following excerpt is taken from Ye Olde Middlesex Courts:
The record given above does not tell us who these children were, or even whether they were male or female. The record also does not give the names of the Woodbridge women who were the mothers of these children. While we do not know for certain, these two children were likely raised by their mothers, and they may have retained the Dunham surname. We do know for certain that there are Dunhams not currently proven to descend from Jonathan 2 Dunham, whose DNA matches the descendants of Jonathan 2 Dunham/ alias Singletary. Identifying these two illegitimate children could help to document the ancestry of the Dunhams who are so far not connected to Jonathan 2 Dunham of Woodbridge, New Jersey.
