 49. BENAJAH 3 DUNHAM (Joseph 2 John1), baptized in Plymouth 1684;[1] died in Tisbury, Dukes County, Massachusetts 8 December 1766.[2] Benajah married probably in Edgartown 7 May 1708 SARAH COVEL, daughter of Philip and Elizabeth (Atwood) Covel.[3] They were married by Pastor Jonathan Dunham who was an uncle of Benajah.[4] Sarah Covel was born in Edgartown in 1693; died there 16 August 1778.[5] Benajah came to Edgartown about 1708. He was Master of the House of Correction in 1731. He is buried at Tower Hill Cemetery in Edgartown.[6] By the will of his father, Joseph 2 Dunham, Benajah and his younger brother Daniel got 40 acres of land in Plympton that “I now live on which is my homestead” to be divided between them.[7] Benajah sold this land to William Canady in 1708.[8]
