5. OBADIAH-5 DUNHAM (Jabez-4, Nathaniel-3, Thomas-2, John-1), was b. in Hebron, Tolland, CT, 31 Mar 1730; d. in Middlefield, Otsego, NY, 17 Feb 1813; m. in Hebron, 22 Nov 1754, Lucy Gillett, dau. of Joel Gillett and Mary Foote. She was b. in Windsor, Hartford, CT, 18 Feb 1740; d. 18 Feb 1830. Both Obadiah and Lucy were bur. in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown, Otsego, NY. He was a doctor.

He had been a garrison soldier at Fort Massachusetts (now in Williamstown, MA) during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). He and several other garrison soldiers from Fort Massachusetts and Fort Hoosac were early proprietors at Pownal, Bennington, VT, moving there in 1763. He fought in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783); and was one of the heroes of battle of Bennington. On September 24, 1776, he was sent as delegate to Dorset, Bennington, Vt. to organize Vermont as a state. He served as a private from May 19 to June 28, 1779, in Capt. Thomas Sawyer's company of militia raised for the defense of the northern frontiers of the United States, and received £2.19.8. He also served as a private for 67 days from August 16, 1780, in Capt. Eli Noble's company; Major Eben Allen's Detachment, and received £5.3.4 and served as a private for two days in July 1781, under the same command, "as marcher to Saratoga", NY, in the alarm in Pownal, Bennington, VT. (signed) T. S. Peck, Adjutant General.

He served as justice of peace at Pownal, Vt. for 20 years. In 1785 he and family (Mehitabel, Abner, Lucy) moved to the hamlet of Bowerstown in Middlefield, NY, just Southeast of Cooperstown. He was overseer of the poor when the town of Middlefield was established in 1797.

William Wheeler who Ethan Allen took command of at Castleton VT in 1775 to march on Ft Ticonderoga. Benjamin participated in Ethan Allen’s march to Canada under Seth Warner and was a member of the rangers under Col Herrick and took part in the battles of Saratoga, Bemis Heights, & Bennington along with Quebec, Ft Ticonderoga and Crown Point. She married (2) Isaac Duel, 06-22-1806.
