LINE OF DEACON JOHN DUNHAM OF PLYMOUTH

THIRD GENERATION IN AMERICA

35. DANIEL3 DUNHAM (Jonathan 2 John 1) born say 1677-8 probably in Middleborough;[1] died at Edgartown between 1 August 1741 and 5 March 1741/2, the dates on which his will was written and probated.[2] Daniel married ca. 1701-2 REBECCA (--).[3] Her surname is sometimes given as Norton, but no proof of that has been discovered. Col. Banks says there was no Norton woman of that name at that time.[4] She MAY have died at Easthampton, Connecticut 3 Feb. 1783, age 99 years. If so, she was either moving with her family who went to Conway, Massachusetts or living with her son Silas 4 Dunham, who may have lived there.

In his will dated 1 Aug. 1741 Daniel names wife Rebecca, sons Jacob, Daniel “my right in the fishing creek in Edgartown, to be equally divided amongst my three sons Zephaniah, Daniel and Jacob.” He also names sons Silas, Eleazer, and Samuel, and daus. Matilda Vinson, Rebecca Pease, Dinah Dunham, Sarah Pease, Persis Dunham, and Mary Curtis.

From Dukes Co. Ma. Probate 3:137

“ . . .I Daniel Dunham, Sen. of Edgartown in Dukes County, on Martha’s Vineyard in the Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England, yeoman. . .

I give to my two sons Daniel and Jacob Dunham all my other lands as common land lotts or any other lands or meadows which may be found belonging to me in said Edgartown or elsewhere to be equally divided between them and their heirs or assigns forever: also my mind is that my right in the fishing creek in said Edgartown be equally divided amongst my three sons Zephaniah, Daniel and Jacob Dunham:
I give to my son Silas Dunham twelve pounds which is due to me by contract now in the hands of William Dunham, if I should not live to want it:
I give to my two sons Eleoran (sic. Eleazer) and Samuel Dunham ten shillings each to be paid by my executor within two years of my decease:

Appoint my loving son Daniel Dunham, Jr. to be my sole executor
