LINE OF DEACON JOHN DUNHAM OF PLYMOUTH

SECOND GENERATION IN AMERICA

8. HANNAH 2 DUNHAM (John 1) born in Plymouth about 1634; [1] died 1 April 1709 in her 74th year. [2] She married in Plymouth 31 October 1651 GILES 2 RICKARD, [3] son of Giles 1 and Judith (Cogan) (King) Rickard. He d. 29 Jan. 1709/10. [4]

Connections between the Tilson/Rickard/Dunham family are interesting. An article by Robert S. Wakefield, The Tilson Family of Plymouth Colony¸ published in TAG Vol. 69, p. 37-40 provides information about the Tilson Family of Plymouth. The first record of Edmund 1 Tilson in Plymouth Colony is the 3 Sept. 1638 grant of 5 acres “at Woberry Playne.” He married Joanne (--), apparently in England. She was granted administration of the estate of Edward Tilson 5 Mar. 1660/61. Widow Joan Tilson married second at Plymouth on 20 May 1662 Gyles 1 Rickard as his second wife. (He married first at West Hatch, County Somerset, England on 7 Jan. 1623/4 Judith (Cogan) King; married third at Plymouth on 25 June 1669 Hannah (Pontus) Churchill).

The children of Edmund 1 Tilson and Joanne (--) Tilson were:

i. Mary 2 Tilson, b. prob. in England; d. aft. 20 May 1678. [5] She married in Plymouth 23 Dec. 1652 James 2 Cole (James 1 Cole). [6]

ii. Elizabeth 2 Tilson, b. ; She married first at Plymouth 25 Oct. 1660 Benajah 2 Dunham. She married second prob. at Piscataway, New Jersey before 14 January 1684/5 Jonas Wood.

iii. Ephraim 2 Tilson, b.; d. at Plympton, Oct. 1716.[7] He married 7 July 1666, Elizabeth 2 Hoskins, daughter of William and Ann (Hynes) Hoskins. Their daughter Mary 3 married 21 January 1691

Nathaniel 3 Dunham. He was a son of Joseph 2 and Mercy (Morton) Dunham. Two sons of Ephriam and Elizabeth (Hoskins) Tilson, John 4 and Ephraim 4 Tilson, married two daughters of John 3 and Mary (--) Rickard (Hannah 2 (Dunham) Rickard, John 1 Dunham.) John 4 Tilson m. in Plymouth, 27 March 1706, Lydia 4 Rickard and Ephraim 4 Tilson, m. in Plympton, 14 April 1709, Mercy 4 Rickard.

iv. John 2 Tilson, b.; d. unmarried before 29 October 1673.

iv. GILES 3 RICKARD, b. 1659 Giles 3 married 7 November 1683 Hannah Snow and he died apparently without issue 29 January 1709/10. [9]

The will of Giles Rickard of Plymouth dated 13 Dec. 1709, proved 10 Mar. 1709/10, as quoted in Mayflower Families-Peter Brown, Vol. 7:16 names "adopted child Desire Doten; kinsman Samuel Rickard, son of his brother Henry; kinsman John Rickard, son of his brother John; Giles, eldest son of his brother Josiah; Samuel, son of his brother Samuel; Sarah, dau. of his brother Eliezor; John Whiting, son of his sister Abigail; Elezor Faunce, son of his sister Judith; Mercy Eaton, dau. of his sister Hannah; wife Hannah."
